Sywell has always been a great place to photograph the spirit of an airshow. It has a backdrop of a fabulous 1930s hotel which sets the scene for a weekend of aircraft display.
I joined my friend James Holland, and his co commentator, ex Red Arrow, Mike Ling for an unrivalled view of the show. At airshows, I often prefer to wander behind the crowds, finding unusual angles and framing points to bring context to my photography.
I also had the privilege to speak to Richard Grace, who’s curation of the airshow was second to none. It was with great sadness to hear that Richard passed away not long after, and these photographs are dedicated to him and his family.
