I met Pete & Sanna at a stable yard in leafy Buckinghamshire, armed with my camera, lenses and a raincoat. After a cup of tea, Sanna & I talked about what she wanted to achieve with this photoshoot and it simply came down to capturing the relationship of horse & woman.
Seemingly simple, but simple is hard. Sanna is not backward in coming forward so she was able just to start reacting in front of the camera. Riding Pete, I noticed that the horse tamed Sanna slightly, and she had to focus on guiding Pete around the indoor menage.
I usually like to work with natural light, so we used the daylight flooding in from the opening in the end of the menage, which created a strong light & shadow contrast, revealing the sinuous lines of Pete’s form. The shots that we made convey the connection between Sanna & Pete and left everyone very satisfied with the photography.
