BAND OF BROTHERS
CURRAHEE
It started with a chat in a pub with a friend who had once been in the HBO Series ‘Band of Brothers’. The conversation went along the lines of “We’re thinking about jumping of a C-47 to remember and pay respects to the veterans we played on screen, would you like to come along?, oh, and bring your camera!”
And that’s how I found myself in Toccoa, Georgia, historic home of the 101st Airborne, and specifically where Easy Company, 506th PIR learned their trade in the hour of need.
The opportunity to spend quality time with friends and to capture some special moments was too good to turn down! We spent a week in the barracks at Toccoa, climbed the 3 miles of the infamous Currahee (echoes of David Schwimmer yelling ‘Hi Ho Silver!!!’ as Captain Sobel ringing through the trees) and flying in ‘Placid Lassie’, a genuine C-47 with D Day combat history. What a week!
